Try it

Give Toothy a scrub.

Brush him, then floss him. Like real teeth, a brush only gets you so far.

How clean0%

That’s the idea behind the app. A brush cleans the surfaces you can see. The spots between teeth need floss, so floss is what unlocks your apps.

How it works

Pick your apps. Floss. They open.

  1. Pick your apps

Choose the apps that eat your evenings and a lock time. Free locks up to 3.

  2. Floss with Toothy

The camera check counts 30 seconds of flossing, or use the timer. String floss, picks, water flossers and little brushes all count.

  3. Everything opens

Your apps unlock, Toothy gets clean and your streak grows. Miss a night and Toothy just gets muddy. Two skips a week keep your streak safe.

Why floss

Reminders are easy to swipe away. A locked app isn’t.

Strong evidence
Only about 1 in 3 U.S. adults over 30 floss every day.1

Most people know they should. The hard part is remembering at 11 PM.

Some evidence
Flossing plus brushing helps keep gums healthy.2

In trials, adding floss to brushing may reduce gum inflammation compared with brushing alone.

Dentist guidance
Dentists recommend cleaning between your teeth once a day.3

Gums often bleed less after a couple of weeks of daily flossing. If they don’t, see your dentist.

Show your hygienist

Bring a report card to your cleaning.

Questions

Fair questions.

Can I cheat it?

If you really want to, yes. You can delete the app or turn off its Screen Time permission, and no app can stop that. You also get 2 skips a week that keep your streak safe. Floss Lock isn’t a prison. It’s a nudge that’s much harder to ignore than a reminder.

What if I miss a night?

Toothy gets a bit muddy, never sick, and the next floss cleans him up. Miss one night and you can repair your streak by flossing the next two.

Does the camera record me?

No. The floss check runs on your phone and only counts flossing motion. Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded. You can use the timer instead.

Do water flossers count?

Yes. Tell Floss Lock what you’re using tonight (string floss, floss picks, a water flosser or little interdental brushes) and the check adjusts.

Can my kids use it?

Yes, as a family. Parents can tick off the kids they floss with, right on their own phone, and each kid gets their own Toothy. Teens with their own iPhone can join the family board with a nickname.

Is there an Android version?

iPhone comes first and Android follows. Pick Android in the form above and we’ll email you when it’s ready.

Does it replace my dentist?

No. Floss Lock builds a habit. Keep your regular checkups, and see your dentist if your gums still bleed after two weeks of daily flossing.

Who made it?

Floss Lock was created by a licensed dentist. Every fact in the app shows its source and how strong the evidence is.
